Mayor Bloomberg Praises Leake & Watts NYC Civic Corps Members

On June 25, New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg spoke at the graduation ceremony of the third New York City Civic Corps class, praising the many important contributions that each Civic Corps member had made to nonprofit organizations around the city. NYC Civic Corps is a specially trained group of AmeriCorps members who work at nonprofit organizations and NYC agencies to help recruit a larger number of volunteers, increase their capacity and opportunities for volunteers to serve, and ultimately serve a greater number of New Yorkers in need.  The current NYC Civic Corps members just completed their ten-month term of service, during which they helped nonprofits and city agencies recruit more than 747,000 volunteers.
Leake & Watts is proud to have two graduating Civic Corps members, George Scott and Altagracia Pimentel. The two of them accomplished something astounding, having developed a corporate volunteer program for our Volunteer Services Department, started a mentoring program for at-risk youth in our programs, and bolstered our individual volunteer program as well.  Thanks to their efforts, Leake & Watts has engaged 450 volunteers in over 3,500 hours of service, which Mayor Bloomberg directly praised in his speech.
