Laughter, shouts and music echoed across our campus on a warm and sunny Saturday in June as friends, neighbors, alumni and staff all joined us for Leake & Watts’ first Community Day. Our Yonkers/Riverdale campus includes residential cottages, the bustling Ames Early Childhood Center, Biondi High School, a thriving Community Garden and our administrative facilities. But because the beautiful grounds are somewhat secluded, many people are not aware that so many great things are going on beyond our gates. With Community Day, we wanted to invite everyone to meet our staff, learn more about the services that we provide, and welcome them to become a part of our Leake & Watts community.

Children enjoyed the games, crafts, face painting and bouncing castle, while parents were able to get to know each other under the shade of the trees and tents. By the sign of all the sticky fingers and big smiles, the barbecue, ice cream truck and bake sale were also favorites for visitors of all ages. The best part of the afternoon, though, was meeting new people. Leake & Watts Executive Director Alan Mucatel was happy to see guests, residents and employees getting to know each other. “Everyone who came out – from local residents to staff – had a great time together, and we are pleased to build stronger connections with the neighborhood though events like this for children and adults alike,” said Mucatel.
