Highbridge Nursery School joins Cool Culture and the Guggenheim Museum for "Literacy Through Culture"

Highbridge Nursery School, one of our child care centers in the Bronx, joined Cool Culture and the Guggenheim Museum for "Literacy Through Culture," a project for both parents and students designed to strengthen parents’ capacity to support their children’s learning during museum visits and everday routines this spring. Highbridge Nursery School is one of only eleven child care centers in New York City that participated in this exciting project. Students enjoyed opportunities that are often inaccessible to children in under-served neighborhoods through this unique program.

The "Literacy Through Culture" project included staff, students and parents. It incorporated four visits to Highbridge Nursery School by staff from the Guggenheim Museum, one specifically geared for parents, and a culminating school visit to the Guggenheim Museum. Kids had the opportunity to take digital photographs of their own neighborhood to create a beautiful montage and integrated painting that is now displayed at the school.

Cool Culture is a not for profit organization which "builds bridges between families from low-income communities and cultural institutions in New York City, so that children from all economic backgrounds can benefit from early exposure to these outstanding resources."
