Dear Friends of Leake and Watts,

James J. Campbell, Executive Director

As we enter our 176th year, I'm absolutely certain our two distinguished founders, John George Leake and John Watts, would have been proud of our organization's growth, diversification and accomplishments as outlined in our historic annual report.

Our principal mission today, as it was at the time of our founding in 1831, is to devote all our resources, energy and expertise to care for children and families in need - to build brighter tomorrows. That's what we are all about.

Leake and Watts has earned distinction as a nationally recognized leader and innovator among not-for-profit organizations that serve vulnerable children and families in need.  In fact, we are providing residential, educational, therapeutic and spiritual services to some 3,000 at-risk boys and girls in the Bronx, Westchester and Greater New York area each and every day.

With respect to current initiatives, Leake and Watts has begun providing Medicaid Service Coordination and plans to open its first Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD) licensed Individual Residential Alternative (IRA) for eight consumers in the Bronx.  To diversify our 200 students campus population in Yonkers, we have accepted student referrals from the Office of Children and Family Services and the NYS Education Department (SED).  We now have 24 such students residing in three on-campus cottages.  Our goal is to have 48 students from SED on campus.

One of our most recent accomplishments featured the successful launching of the Leake and Watts inaugural Family Life Educational Conference.  Raising Winners: An Urban Agenda, held on the Fordham University Lincoln Center Campus.  Another highly successful first time event was our Inaugural Golf Outing held at the picturesque Sleepy Hollow Country Club.

2007 marks my 31st anniversary as Executive Director.  It has been and continues to be an incredible journey.  Leake and Watts is most fortunate to have such a dedicated Board of Directors and staff to help carry out its mission.  To each and every member of our Board and staff, thank you for your loyalty, service and friendship.  I truly believe the best is yet to come.

James J. Campbell
Executive Director
