Early Head Start

Leake & Watts firmly believes that every child deserves to receive high quality developmental and educational support during the first years of their lives so that they are prepared to succeed in school. Because we are concerned with the fact that millions of children from low-income families are inadequately prepared for preschool and struggle for years to catch up to their peers, Leake & Watts provides support services to infants, toddlers and pregnant women from low-income neighborhoods in the Bronx through our federally-funded Early Head Start Program.
In Early Head Start, we provide critical early childhood services that address the education, special education, health, mental health, and nutritional needs of children. We provide health, mental health, hearing, vision and dental screenings, nutritious meals and snacks, and referrals to free/low-cost health clinics and food banks as needed.  The program provides additional services to families which help them to learn positive parenting skills, better support their children’s physical, educational and social-emotional needs and achieve greater independence.
Our Early Head Start Program also supports pregnant women in the program with pregnancy and prenatal education, and help them access medical and other necessary services.
